![]() They also raise the leading edge less when opening the face, making it easier to hit higher lofted shots and flop shots. Low bounce wedges (4 – 6º) are ideal for firm turf, tight lies and compact sand in bunkers. You’ll notice in the pictures above, the lead wedge is raised on all wedges.īounce does what it says on the tin – it helps the club bounce, rather than dig as it strikes the ground. Wedge bounce refers to the angle created between the leading edge of the club and the lowest point of the sole or trailing edge. I feel these three clubs just give you the ability to create so many different shots inside 50 yards. Last point, if you fall into either category but love practising your short game then opt for the players’ setup (52, 56, 60º wedges). ![]() Use the extra space to find a hybrid or fairway wood that you love hitting off the fairway. If you hit the ball less than 240 yards off the tee and/or play lots of long par fours opt for the alternative wedge setup (52, 58º). You’ll find these wedges really help your ability to score. If you hit the ball 270+ yards off the tee and/or play courses with lots of short par fours I would opt for the players’ setup (52, 56, 60º wedges). Both will work well for almost any player, but If you’re unsure here are a few tips to help you decide. I personally have used both options outlined above, however, I now favour the 52, 56, 60º setup. A brilliant wedge setup far outweighs the usefulness of a long iron that you may hit once in a round.īelow are some further details of how to create this wedge setup.Ĭheck Price Which wedge setup is right for me? If this is the case I would urge you to drop a 3 or 4-iron. You may need to drop another club out of your bag to make room, as legally you are allowed 14 clubs. It provides excellent coverage from 120 to 60 yards and gives you a variety of options for chipping, pitching and bunker play. This wedge setup restores the 4º difference between clubs that we, as golfers, are used to. Your wedges don’t have to match each other, although if they do it does provide a little more consistency.īelow we’ll cover some options: The players wedge setup – 52, 56, 60º wedges Your wedges do not have to match your irons so can be bought individually. Some sets will also come with a sand wedge, however, these sand wedges are often bulky and lack the control required for chipping and pitching.įor this reason, most golfers will benefit from buying one of the following wedge setups as they look to master their short game and maximise scoring. All golfers can keep their standard set of irons up to a pitching wedge. What are the best wedges to have in your bag?Īs you improve as a player you will want to consider creating a custom wedge set up to optimise your scoring. Never fear, below we’ll show you how best to solve this problem and build a great wedge setup for your game. The result – manufacturers created a new club to sell golfers called a ‘gap wedge’… ![]() However, modern sets have pushed all their iron lofts down, resulting in longer distances but leaving a real problem when hitting shots from within 120 yards of the green.Ī modern pitching wedge is just 45 – 48º (historically 50 – 51º) meaning most golfers now have a 2-3 club gap between their PW and SW. Historically, each iron in a set was separated by 4-5º of loft, with a sand wedge having 56º and each club having 4-5º less loft as you move down to a 3-iron. The typical wedge gapping problem for golfers Approach wedge is used more in the US, but you will hear ‘gap wedge’ and ‘approach wedge’ used interchangeably. Again, these range in loft from 50 – 52º. What is an Approach Wedge?Īn approach wedge is another name for a gap wedge or g wedge. As this extra loft reduces the number of situations the club becomes useful. You can purchase lob wedges ranging from 60 – 64º of loft, I personally would not advise buying a lob wedge with more than 60º. What degree is a Lob Wedge?Ī lob wedge has a loft of 60º – 64º. They can be a very useful club for hitting high lofted chips and can also be used to hit out of bunkers. They don’t come as standard but can be bought as an optional extra. A lob wedge is the most lofted club a golfer can buy. ![]()

Stop reading if you’ve heard this one before: you control one of two characters who is part of a government organization sent to investigate and clean up a mysterious incident that happened in what was thought to be a deserted biochemistry lab in the middle of nowhere. Ten points to Gryffindor, or at least anyone who can accurately pronounce this game’s title. But that strangeness fits with the overall tone of the game, full of terrible platforming, a camera that makes it impossible to see what’s in front of you, and boring gameplay. It was an odd decision to mash-up both Tomb Raider and Crash Bandicoot, considering both franchises were in steep decline by 2001, and the PlayStation 2 had been out for a year. There’s the desert level in Egypt, the snow level in Tibet, the jungle level in Africa (I guess Egypt isn’t in Africa in Barbie’s world), and then Babylon at the end for the supernatural flair. Barbie: Explorer features a scant four levels, each one being an utterly generic “adventure game” cliché. What kind of game do you make based on a doll? And there’s a tonal distinction in saying “give ‘em hell!” instead of something a little more milquetoast. There’s a difference between telling me a lot of people are in danger and the decision I am about to make will impact the lives of more than 100 people. My biggest issue lies with the subtitles, which often disappear entirely or don’t match the spoken dialogue in ways that either reveal information that changed my moral calculus or were just jarring. There are no graphics settings aside from resolution, and it runs locked at 30 frames per second (though it dipped significantly below that when a lot was happening on screen), but Resurgence looks good enough that I doubt many people will notice. The PC version also has some technical issues. Most times, the tricorder segments work well enough, but when you get stuck it can become frustrating. In a small environment with a lot of scannable objects this can mean the tricorder is constantly beeping, which isn’t really helpful. Resurgence tries to help you out by having the tricorder beep when you’re near something that can be scanned, but it doesn’t distinguish between something that can be scanned and something you already have scanned. What you need to scan isn’t always obvious, and there were times I spent a few minutes wandering around the same room looking for the last piece of information I needed. The only annoyance among them is the tricorder segments, which ask you to scan objects to solve puzzles. Best of all, these segments are never one-offs, so you’re building skills that can be used in more difficult, stressful scenarios later on. I particularly enjoyed the flying and shooting segments because they required me to make quick decisions. There’s a lot of variety here: you’ll fly shuttles, fire phasers, command the Resolute from the bridge, solve engineering puzzles, scan things with your tricorder, and sneak around hostile environments, and nearly all of it is engaging and feels like what we should be doing in a Star Trek game. Of course, all of those dialogue options and moral dilemmas are broken up by Resurgence’s moment-to-moment action, which is respectable. But the lack of meaningful consequences made them feel like filler in hindsight. I don’t regret the choices I made they were set up extremely well and emotionally effective when I made them. Later on, the group’s leader thanked me for my choice – and then didn’t really appear again, even when it would have made sense for them to do so. The decision felt awful (in a good way) – there was no good choice – but I did what I thought was right and what the character I was playing would do. Ultimately, I had to choose between gravely injuring one of my crew members and potentially sacrificing that group. In one extreme example I was sent to rescue a group of people by beaming them away from impending disaster. That’s inevitable in a game like Resurgence – the story has to continue no matter what you do – but it never feels good when it happens. Sometimes, you’ll make what feels like an important decision only to realize later that it didn’t matter much. That said, I do wish the consequences of certain choices had more effect on the story. Better still, I felt I understood Jara and Carter more because I had just as much time to work through the issues as they did. The timer was fast enough to make me think on my feet but not so overwhelming that I felt paralyzed by indecision. Sometimes it’s fast and sometimes it’s slow, but you have to respond – or not, but choosing not to decide is a choice in and of itself.I never felt rushed during big moments, but I knew I had to be decisive – and so did the characters I was controlling. You’ll have to make these choices quickly, too, because you’re on a timer. How well you do as Carter affects what happens to the ship, but the decisions you make as Jara affect Carter if something goes wrong. ![]() In one early scene, Carter is out on the ship’s hull repairing a critical system, while Jara is on the bridge. Jara and Carter rarely directly interact with one another but both of them play important roles in the story, and Dramatic Labs does a good job showing how the decisions made by one of them can impact the other. It gives you a better idea of the stakes for everyone aboard – problems apply to more than the folks on the bridge, who knew! – and makes scenarios more exciting. Other times it means rerouting power to a critical system or taking a spacewalk to repair the Resolute. ![]() Sometimes, that means giving orders from the bridge or leading an away team. After the translating work was done the angel is said to have taken them away. The reason why the plates or copies of the text on them are not available for examination is explained by saying that the angel had forbidden Joseph Smith to show them to anyone except those designated by the angel. Joseph Smith claimed that he translated it from golden plates that he found in a hiding place revealed to him by an angel.
